Salzburger Kunstverein, Johannes Steidl, Februar 2005, Installation view

Johannes Steidl presents a series of work, the idea for which was created during the last months of a stay in New York. Works such as those of the tortoise shell in ink on the paper of a box of milk can be the sequel and further radicalization of the animal subject. These animals are semantic drawings and symbols whereby it is not about recognizability but characteristics of the animal-human existence such as fear, suffering, greed and lust being made into a central theme, also simultaneously incorporating the metaphors of failure in success of the borders of visibility, thinkability, conceivability, the concepts of time and painting.
